AI for law firms
AI for law firms, on both sides of the front door.
For a law firm, AI matters in two separate places. Outside the firm, prospective clients now ask assistants who to call, and the assistant names two or three firms from sources it can read and trust. Inside the firm, intake, conflict checks, document handling and client updates still consume paid hours that follow rules. The first is a visibility problem and the second is an automation problem, and most firms have both.
Outside: being the firm the assistant names
Ask ChatGPT whether you need a lawyer for a car accident settlement in a given city and it will name firms. The ones it names are not necessarily the ones ranking first on Google. They are the ones it could read, parse and corroborate.
Legal is unusually winnable here because so many firm sites are built on template platforms that render content in JavaScript and block unfamiliar crawlers at the CDN. That is a mechanical exclusion, and mechanical problems have fixes.
Inside: the hours nobody bills for
Intake is the obvious first target. A prospective client fills in a form or sends an email, and somebody retypes it into the practice management system, runs a conflict check, and sends an acknowledgement. That sequence is rule-shaped and it happens the same way every time.
Speed matters more here than almost anywhere else, because the firm that responds first usually wins the matter.
The website itself, since it is usually the bottleneck
Law firm website design has a particular failure mode: a handsome site that says nothing a machine can extract. Practice-area pages that read like a brochure give an assistant nothing to quote, so it quotes a directory instead and the directory sells your enquiry to three competitors.
The fix is structural rather than cosmetic. Each practice area answers the actual question a person in trouble types, completely, in language a machine can lift and attribute. That is also, conveniently, what a worried human wants to read at eleven at night.
What we will not do
We do not touch privileged material, we do not build anything that gives legal advice, and we do not put client data through a model without you deciding exactly where it goes. If a workflow cannot be automated without creating a confidentiality problem, we will say so rather than engineer around it.
What it is worth, and who measured it
+8.4%
A 0.1 second improvement in load speed lifted retail conversion by 8.4% and average order value by 9.2%. Same traffic, same spend, more revenue.
These are findings from published research on the wider market, measured by the people named beside each one. They are not results we are promising you, and we do not have client results of our own to show yet, which we would rather say plainly than dress up.
Questions
How do law firms get recommended by ChatGPT?
By being readable and corroborated. The assistant needs to fetch the site without being blocked, parse the practice areas and locations from the HTML rather than from JavaScript, and find consistent information about the firm elsewhere. Most firm sites fail on the first or second of those.
Is our website blocking AI crawlers?
Possibly, and usually not on purpose. Bot protection at the CDN commonly turns away GPTBot and PerplexityBot while letting Googlebot through. Our free scan fetches your homepage while identifying as those crawlers and reports what your server actually returned.
What is the best AI for lawyers to actually start with?
Not a legal-research tool, which is where most firms look first and where the risk is highest. Start with the phone, because a missed call is a client who rang the next firm on the list, and with intake, because it is the same twenty fields typed by someone whose time is worth far more. Both are measurable within a month and neither goes anywhere near advice.
What can a law firm automate safely?
Intake capture and routing, conflict-check preparation, document assembly from your own templates, and client status updates. What we avoid is anything that produces legal advice or moves privileged material somewhere you have not explicitly approved.
Do you work with firms outside the US?
Yes. We work remotely with firms in the US, UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Ireland. The engineering is the same; the questions we test differ by jurisdiction.
