AI visibility, in plain English

What is AI search visibility?
AI search visibility is whether AI assistants, ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude and Google’s AI Overviews, can read your site, understand it, and cite your business when someone asks a question you should answer. It combines classic SEO with answer-first content, structured data, AI-crawler access and off-site trust signals.
How is getting cited by AI different from ranking on Google?
Ranking places a link in a list; AI citation makes your business the source an assistant quotes. The two overlap but choose sources differently: a page can rank well on Google and never be cited by AI, and vice versa. Around 80% of URLs cited by ChatGPT do not rank in Google’s top 100.
What is the fastest thing I can check myself?
Whether AI crawlers can even read your site. Open yourdomain.com/robots.txt and check for GPTBot, ClaudeBot and PerplexityBot, and confirm your CDN is not blocking them, or run our free scan, which tests both layers in about ten seconds.
